As you may or may not be aware, I have been nominated to run for State Assembly in the 11th District, which includes Asbury Park. The District runs from Brielle to Atlantic Highlands. If elected to the General Assembly, it will be the first time since 1988 that a statewide elected official has come from the ranks of education. The late Jim Howard represented Asbury Park in the United States Congress. I look forward to being able to bring the ideas of education to Trenton from our district. If you interested in volunteering to work on this campaign, you can contact our Headquarters in Middlebrook Shopping Center in Ocean Township. My running mate, John Pirnat, is also a Union Representative with the Teamsters. Our Senate Candidate is also an Asbury Park Park native, John A. Villapiano. We look forward to your support in November.

Again, please remember to get out and vote YES to your school budget as well as any pro-education candidates running for your local Board of Education. Thank you for taking the time out to have your voice heard during this school year election.

Unfortunately, this person does not realize that the APEA along with the assistance of NJEA, have put their money into this district. We have advocated for the children and parents of this district. We will continue to push for reform to move this district forward. We will not be bullied by a carpet bagger that thinks he is a fixture of this community.

This afternoon, Assembly Republicans held a surprise news conference to say their lawyers had found the bill to be unconstitutional under the Uniformity Clause. That clause requires all property to be taxed at the same rate, regardless of the owners

On December 4th Senator Richard Codey, Senate President (District 27)
introduced bill #S-40. This bill, if passed into law, would implement some of
the recommendations of the Joint Legislative Committee on Public Employees
Benefits Reform which would affect certain conditions of employment for public
employees. The bill is 131 pages long and is currently being researched by NJEA.

The Assembly version of the senate bill, A-2 is sponsored by Nellie Pou
(District 35) and Tom Giblin (District 34). Again, this bill is approximately
131 pages and is also being analyzed by NJEA.

NJEA opposes many of the changes in these bills and will work diligently
to protect the earned benefits of our members.

As more definitive information becomes available, NJEA will communicate
with its members the impact this legislation will have on their employment.

We would like you and members of the executive committee to attend the meeting sponsored by CWA. All legislators and NJEA officers will also be in attendance. This will be a good indication of where our legislators stand on these issues.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, December 7th from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Gardens in Freehold (Rt. 537 & Gibson Place ).

This is an extremely important meeting. Please try to attend.

meeting sponsored by the NJEA/MCEA last evening regarding the Pension and Benefits crisis now in Trenton.

Your voice was heard as well as your concerns for your membership. These concerns have been
communicated to Trenton as well as your anger. Our message shall now become one clear statement
from all members of this county.

Please continue to organize your locals with letters to your legislative representatives as well as your
efforts to bring your membership out to the rally on December 11th.
